Literature Review for the Intervention Proposal

In Week One, you created an annotated bibliography. It is now time to take that research and begin working on your Intervention Proposal. One of the main components of an intervention proposal is the literature review. This week you will be drafting a portion of the literature review that you will include in your Week Six Intervention Proposal. For this week, choose three to four articles that include in a mini literature review that you will build on during Week Six to complete your Intervention Proposal. These articles should all be recent (published within the past 10 years). You should also cite other material (e.g., seminal works about the theories) as appropriate.

In your literature review: State your thesis statement that is your professional opinion. Briefly explain the organization of the paper. For example, if there is a major controversy in this literature, briefly describe the controversy and state that you will present research supporting first one side, and then the other. Or, if three methodologies have been used to address the question, briefly describe them and then state that you will compare the results obtained by the three methods. Begin by broadly discussing the literature. Then, narrow your review to the studies that are most related to your research question. Your literature review should resemble a funnel – wide (broad) at the top and narrow (focused) at the bottom.

Ensure that at least one article (but no more than two) supports the opposing side to your thesis. Describe studies in enough detail that the reader has a general sense of the study’s hypothesis, methods, and findings. Evaluate the studies. Do not provide article summaries; rather, provide descriptive and scholarly evaluations of the research. Discuss implications of studies (i.e., your judgment of what the studies show and where to go from here). It is common (and often better) to combine the description and evaluation sections. If you do combine them, do not forget to evaluate them. State your conclusion that reaffirms your professional opinion.

Read “Topic 4: Vargas Family Case Study.” Write a 750-word paper in which you demonstrate how therapists apply Structural Family Therapy theory to analyze the presenting problems and choose appropriate interventions. Be sure to answer the following questions in your paper:  1. What are two current presenting problems for the Vargas family? 2. How are the problems maintained according to the Structural Family Therapy perspective? 3. What Structural interventions would you plan to use in your next session? (identify and describe your plan for two interventions)  Cite at least three academic sources (peer-reviewed journal articles, books, etc.). Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Prepare: Explore The Political Compass (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. website and take the quiz. Take the time to notice where your responses landed you on the Political Compass grid and where that point is in relation to world leaders. Then, read Chapters 13 and 14 in your textbook and the article, “The Rise of Conservatism Since World War II

Reflect: Consider the information on The Political Compass (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. website. How well did the information on the website conform to your own views of what “liberal” and “conservative” mean? How well did the information conform to the media’s portrayals of “liberal” and “conservative”? Think about the information that you read in the textbook and in the article “The Rise of Conservatism Since World War II.” Reflect on the reasons that conservatism gained more popular support in the last part of the 20th century and what effect conservative policies have had on different groups. Think about the many developments that we have explored over the past five weeks and how they have contributed to the political, social, and economic issues that the United States faces today. Think about how history can help us understand the issues of today.

The Scales We Use and the Comparisons We Make Resources Attributes and Evaluation of Discussion Contributions.

In this unit, you are introduced to four scales of measurement, which are easily remembered with the acronym NOIR, and include nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Each of these levels or scales of measurement has its own properties, methods for assigning numbers or scores, and procedures for statistically manipulating them. As noted in your Psychological Testing and Assessment text, and adhering to a fundamentalist view of measurement statistics, all possible attributes in psychology can be examined through at least one of these four scales and the creation of scores that purport to measure them.

You also read about two methods for evaluating those scores through comparing them to a reference set of data; namely, norm-referenced testing and assessment, and criterion-referenced testing and assessment. Each of these methods is unique in the focus regarding a test’s scores or results.

Discuss the impact of each scale of measurement on the ability or inability to be utilized on a test being standardized as a norm-referenced or criterion-referenced assessment. For the purpose of this discussion, you may cluster the ordinal and interval scale together. Subsequently, your post will include the following four elements: Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and norm-referenced test. Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and criterion-referenced test. Ratio scale of measurement and norm-referenced test. Ratio scale of measurement and criterion-referenced test.

In you post: Provide at least one example that is not in your Psychological Testing and Assessment text for each combination above and describe how the referencing data would be collected. Provide a statement that evaluates which scale of measurement appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in psychology. Explain. Evaluate which method of referencing (norm or criterion) appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in psychology. Explain your decision based on the area of focus regarding the test results. For example, identify if it is preferable to focus on how one individual performs relative to others who took the same test, or if it is preferable to only focus on what the individual can or cannot do.

Selecting a Good Test Resources Attributes and Evaluation of Discussion Contributions.

Your first assignment, Review and Selection of a Standardized Test, is due by the end of this unit. This assignment includes researching three different standardized tests in a variety of resources, which include Mental Measurements Yearbook from Buros (available in the Capella Library), test publisher Web sites, and peer-reviewed journals.

For this discussion, identify the three standardized tests that you are in the process of researching. The Unit 2 Discussion 2 and Unit 2 Assignment BOTH require that you utilize the Lists of Tests by Type, which is provided in the Unit 2 Readings. In your post: Include a short description of each test and your initial findings from the Mental Measurements Yearbook. You do not need to include any data of information from the journals or publisher Web sites for this discussion. This is a high-level overview of the three tests and discoveries from reading the reviews. Include any difficulties you may be experiencing with searching for information either in Mental Measurements Yearbook from Buros, publisher Web sites, or peer-reviewed journal articles. Conclude your discussion with an evaluation of the three tests and which one is appearing to be your preference for the course project. Explain why.

Please note, that you may change your choice by the time you submit your assignment at the end of this unit.
