Use at least two online Library sources to support your assertions about the leader’s behavior and motivation. Remember to include in-text citations and reference citations in APA Style.
I am so happy that our book covers dyslexia. The first brain imaging lab I worked for while I was a student studied dyslexia. At the time it was a hot topic and there was even a story about the research our lab was doing in Times Magazine.
Unfortunately, even though there are still so many interesting questions to ask about dyslexia and there are still so many people who have dyslexia it isn’t as popular a topic these days. In the lab we did fMRI studies comparing brain activity in dyslexic children and children without dyslexia. We found that there were average differences in brain activity patterns. Those differences in brain activity patterns lead to differences in the way the mind works. These differences lead to difficulties in reading and other tasks but they also lead to advantages. Please watch this 13 minute video that makes that point very well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyab_VSBCAk (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
In the time I spent researching the brain in several different labs one of the things I noticed was that actually there are so many differences between everyone’s brain structure and brain activation patterns. That is one of the reasons that studying the brain can be so difficult. Differences in the brain lead to differences in the way our minds work. But that is an advantage if we work together! We have the option of getting someone else’s perspective on our problem or work because all of our minds work differently to some degree.
Read the section in module 13.2 (14.2 in the 11th edition) called “Dyslexia”.
There are several underlying difficulties that cause difficulty with reading in dyslexia. Make sure you understand what they are know the patterns in the brain related to those functions.
Then post about the following (about your own mind based on personal experience, not necessarily having anything to do with dyslexia): How does your mind work? What problems do you run into because of the way your mind works? How do you use the way your mind works to your advantage?
Comment on a classmate’s post comparing the way your mind works to theirs in detail.
Recurring Steps in the Process In this assignment, you will expand on the concept that needs assessment, program design and development, and program evaluation are recurring steps in an ongoing process. For this assignment, you will present to a broad-based audience of community leaders a review of what has been accomplished (based on what you learned in the previous assignments) and what you recommend as next steps for both the Ruby Lake and the Shoals neighborhoods. Please read the objectives and the Recurring Steps in the Process Scoring Guide carefully to ensure that you are meeting the requirements and grading criteria for this assignment. For this presentation, you will use either PowerPoint or Prezi. Review Get Started With Prezi, if you are not familiar with this program. Other Requirements Your paper should meet the following requirements: •Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message. •APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting guidelines. •Number of resources: Include 5–7 scholarly references. •Length of paper: 10–15 slides. •Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Write a paper of 500 to 750 words in which you discuss the elements of communication across cultures. Include elements such as verbal and nonverbal attributes, attending skills, eye contact, body language, and physical space. Provide examples of communication elements that are both the same and differ across various cultures. Discuss communication strategies that are applicable across cultures.
Paper must include a minimum of two credible sources.
To prepare for this assignment: Review the article, “Interpersonal Dynamics in a Simulated Prison.” Pay particular attention to the ethical standards followed in the Stanford Prison Experiment. Review the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct. Think about which APA ethical standards might apply to the Stanford Prison Experiment and about what problems or conflicts might arise if these standards were applied. Consider whether this study could be conducted today under current ethical standards and why or why not. Keeping in mind the APA ethical standards you reviewed, notice if there are any ethical issues, problems, or flaws in the research study. If so, think about why they are issues, problems, or flaws.
The assignment (2–3 pages): Briefly describe each ethical issue, problem, or flaw you found in the Stanford Prison Experiment. Explain why you consider each to be an ethical issue, problem, or flaw. Explain whether the same research, if conducted today, would be considered ethical or unethical and why or why not. Justify your position citing specific APA ethical codes that apply.
Washington state passed the Death with Dignity Act (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. in 2008, where it is currently legal under specific circumstances to request assistance from a physician in order to end one’s life (see the link for more specifics). For this option, watch the Frontline documentary “The Suicide Plan” (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and research an area of death, dying and bereavement that interests you, and that you can share with others in your group on seminar day. It does not have to be a scholarly article, but it should be from a reputable source. Please answer the questions below:
1. Under what circumstances is it legal in Washington state for someone to request assisted dying? Do you think there are adequate safeguards in place? Why or why not?
2. Why do people explore this option? What are the effects of legalizing this option? How often is this option utilized, and by whom? Use the data from both Oregon and Washington:

Death with Dignity act data from Oregon state (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
3. What topic did you choose to learn more about, and what did you learn? Please include a link and reference to the source. Were there any controversies raised? Were there differences in what the article and the documentary reported?
4. What is your reaction to studying this topic? What are your beliefs and feelings about death and dying, and how were your perspectives informed? Did the reading and documentary change your perspective? If so, in what way(s)? Feel free to share any personal experiences you have with death and dying, although you are not obligated. You may wish to also discuss your fears and concerns about facing end of life issues personally and for your loved ones.
Week Two Homework Exercise
Answer the following questions covering material from Ch. 1–5 of Methods in Behavioral Research:
1. A researcher is interested in studying the effects of different levels of distraction—none, low, and high—on scores on a test of visual memory. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three conditions: no distraction, low distraction, or high distraction. All participants engage in a test of visual memory. What is the independent variable? What is the dependent variable? What is the purpose of random assignment to groups? What is the purpose of random assignment to groups? (6 points)
2. What is an operational definition of a variable? How might the variable sense of humor be defined operationally? (2 points)
3. Define reliability as it relates to measurement of behavior. (2 points)
4. Define and describe scales of measurement. (2 points)
5. What is the difference between construct validity, internal validity, and external validity? (3 points)
6. What is the difference between correlation and causation? (2 points)
Laypersons are often unaware of the extent to which memory errors (including memory of events that did not occur and memory distortions) are commonplace and widespread. The purpose of this assignment is to make you think of not only memory errors in real life, but also the reasons behind their occurrence. Consider the steps listed below: Read the “Adaptive Constructive Processes and the Future of Memory” and “A Range of Memory Possibilities: The Challenge of the false Memory Debate for Clinicians and Researchers” articles, which offer an overview of memory errors and their origins. Keep in mind that your textbook is another valuable source of information regarding memory errors. Select a case mentioned in a news article where memory errors have been known or can be assumed to have occurred (e.g., eyewitness testimony, instances of recovered memories of traumatic experiences, etc.). Describe the main features of the errors, their consequences, and their possible sources (i.e., what are the features of human memory that make the errors possible?).
Engage your critical thinking skills: Explain what cognitive psychology suggests that people do to decrease the occurrence of the memory errors that you discuss in your paper. If these errors cannot be avoided, what does cognitive psychology suggest that people do to prevent the often damaging consequences of such errors? Note that statements regarding the inaccuracy of human memory, and strategies to decrease the occurrence of errors and their consequences are to be supported by scientific evidence collected by experts. Thus, review the literature on memory errors and use at least two peer-reviewed articles that can answer the questions above. Must begin with an introduction to the selected topic in which you define all concepts that will be discussed in the paper. Include a brief description of the memory errors featured in the selected news article as well as discussing potential sources and known or likely consequences according to the guidelines described above. Include a conclusion expressing your thoughts about how these memory errors can be prevented or reduced, and the extent to which their often dreadful consequences can be minimized. Keep in mind that although your opinion is valuable, it needs to be supported by scientific evidence.
The Memory Errors in Real Life Paper Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Must include a separate title page with the following: Title of paper Student’s name Course name and number Instructor’s name Date submitted Must use at least two additional scholarly sources in addition to the course text. The articles that you are asked to read for this assignment (Madill, 2004; Schacter, 2012) can be mentioned in your paper and can be included in the reference section, but a minimum of two additional articles is required. The Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment. Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
